Level Up and Conquer Mafia Wars
1)Build & Promote Your Mafia Family:
No better way to get some built-in muscle than promoting some heavy hitters to sit on your “council” of 6, raising your levels for all areas between 10 and 15 points. Obviously the assignment of these is pivotal, and it’s nice you can compare before promoting.
2) Get Experience Points:
No way around it, you need them to advance. Work on those Jobs which provide the biggest reward first. In other words, if one takes the same amount of Energy as another, but provides many more Experience Points, you know what to choose. Make sure you clear each level up through level 3 on each Job Tier, to get the bonuses. More on applying Experience Points later.
Another great way to get Experience Points is through extended Robbery, often picking up 1 to 3 points per hit, plus a while lot of cash (depending on the properties, qtys., & relative levels involved). More on this later under “Robbery.”
3) Arm Your Family:
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone up against someone with a large “family”, and wipe them out easily, because they aren’t armed. On the spreadsheet I created, the biggest advantage is that you can type in the number for attack or defense (based on family size for Attack or level for Robbery). Then you’ll see which weapons, armor and vehicles would be used, with the corresponding qtys. levels, etc. This is important, because you don’t want to be attacking someone that has a bunch of Gold Desert Eagles with Baseball Bats and Crowbars! Look at it this way, if your family is improperly armed, they may as well not be there for Fights, Robbery and protection.
4) Buy the Right Property:
Like I said earlier about Exp. Points, you don’t want to be spending too much for your return. Look at it as an investment, and what your return on your investment (ROI) is. You also have to maintain it, so don’t reach too far over the top at the upper end too quickly. I’ve seen people aim for the big property in large qtys., without having a good base of lower level properties to provide a stable income. When the big properties get Robbed & put out of business, there’s no income, and no way to repair them without the money. Again, in the spreadsheet, it shows how much you are paying for property for each dollar earned in hourly “rent.”
Always, I repeat, always, buy as many Mafia Mike’s as your mafia family size will allow. It’s the highest ROI, at the lowest cost. Look at this way, with a little math, take the cost of the Lot + Property, divided by the hourly rent.
Buying smart means trying to buy in qty., because you may have noticed that the more Lot & Property you own of each one, the greater it costs to purchase more. So, if you only buy in qtys. of 10, you get all 10 at the lower price.
When you get to the Mega Casino stage, you should be able to afford to always have 10 of each type of lot. That way, when you get enough money to buy 10 of any type of Property, you already own the corresponding lots (spreadsheet also calculates qtys. of 10 for each). Example, if you don’t own any Abandoned Lots, they cost $5,000 each, but the price increases $500 for each one you own. So, if you bought 10, 1 at a time, it would cost you $72,500 vs buying 10 for $50,000. The same applies for Property.
Don’t forget, you have to repair the entire Property after it’s been damaged or Closed for ‘Buisness’ (the way they spell it in the game, I know, it’s wrong), all at one time. You used to repair incrementally, but not any more. Then, you have to pay additionally to protect the Property. If you don’t have a good stable base of lower level income Property, and lack the armed family to protect it, you’re done for.
5) Robbery for Fun, Profit and Revenge:
Many players think that Attack and Hitting a person is the worst thing you can do. It’s funny, sometimes it’s welcome. Imagine this, every time you raise up to full Health, someone Attacks you or puts out a Hit on you. Don’t get mad, get even, and then some.
While you require Health above 20 to Rob, you also need the Stamina to keep going. This isn’t the case with placing a Hit. You only need 1 Stamina to place a Hit, and can be below 20 on Health.
So, this “Goomba” keeps knocking you off, eh? Go ahead and place a hit on them while you’re “below the radar screen” on Health (lower than 20). That will make them do something before being active again on Attack or Robbery. When you get to 20 on Health, Rob their highest level property once, just to kick you back under 20 again (and untouchable for Hits and Attacks). Every 3 mins. or so you get one more Health point, every 5 mins. you get a Stamina (this changes with bonuses, later on). So, while you keep making this single Robbery hits on their property, you also get money. Hey! All this fun, and money, too? When you get enough Stamina maxed out, go to the Hospital and pay for the doctor to fix you up. Once fixed, keep Robbing the highest Property until it’s Closed or you run out of Health (below 20). This will really hurt them where it counts, and sometimes you may have to do this a few times before they really get the message.
Remember, the rules were changed for Robbery, where you can only use up to the number of mafia family equal to the level on. So, if you have 80 people in your family, and working on level 40, only 40 can join in the fight (you and 39 others).
6) Don’t Carry Your Money!!!
Hey, there’s a reason why there’s a 10% charge to launder your money. It’s protected! That’s right, no one can take it from you while it’s in there. Always have another tab or window open to deposit your money when it adds up enough to hurt if you lose it. Then, pull out just what you need to buy things, and buy them quickly before someone steals it from you.
7) The Godfather is Good To You:
Yes, Reward Points are a good thing, especially if used wisely. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to be killed. Don’t waste too much on Health. Concentrate more in this order: Defense, Energy, Stamina, Attack, if you want to keep your Property healthy and earning you money.
Taking the Hit, Gracefully:
Being below 20 on Health is where I get some of my best work done in Mafia Wars. This is when I concentrate on my strategy, arm all of my family with what they need, and do my Jobs. That way, I’m protected, and can’t be Attacked or Hit. Then I might need more time, so I Rob someone to put me back down again, if someone is ready to Hit or Attack me. When you get up high enough, having a Hit out on you can be profitable. If someone trying to redeem that hit is lower than you, then you can earn money and experience points. Keep track of who does this, leaving you in the green, because they’re the perfect target for Robbing later.
