You would need 6.25 million energy to hit the 10 trillion achievement. If you spend about 20,000 energy a day (I usually do about that on my main account), you can get this in a full year’s time, if you focus entirely on the “Take Control of a Casino” job.

What a colossal waste of time. Between the 1 trillion achievement, the 10 trillion achievement, and the 999 trillion achievement, that’s a grand total of >>>>3<<<< skill points. Three skill points! You can get three bonus skill points just by playing the daily chance for a few weeks.

The trillion dollar achievement is pretty easily achievable just by having a decent amount of property. The other two however are the relics of an old Mafia Wars. The hitlist used to be uncapped, and since there was no use for money, bounties were huge (some people would get hitlisted for many trillions – you could win that just in a bounty).

Now, for players who played back then, the $999 trillion achievement is not a problem. For the rest of us mere mortals, it’s an exercise in futility. Yes, I know there was a window where you could do this with rackets, but really, it’s not worth the effort. Three skill points, remember?

Another reason why chasing these achievements is not worth it is because there is a good chance when robbing is reintroduced to the game, there will be new properties added as well (i.e. earn money faster). I’m going to be prepared when robbing is back anyway – I’d much rather be winning my robbery attempts then have two irrelevant achievements unlocked.

The Last Score of 2009 job is different than other event or holiday jobs in that for the first time players will be able to choose their own path with three separate jobs to choose from.

Even though Mafia Wars experienced some glitches and hiccups in the later part of the year the folks over at Zynga have done a great job of fixing most of the problems that we have encountered.

Expect a brand new featured job starting December 28th and continuing through January 4th. According to Zynga “This job will give you even more options than before including choosing different missions with different payouts.”

Bangkok Expansion

Originally the Bangkok Expansion was slated for release during the Christmas holidays but has been pushed back to a January 2010 release. Personally I am happy to see a game provider that is willing to make sure that an expansion is ready instead of pushing it out before it is ready. Bravo Zynga!

Other 2010 Features

Multi-Item Gifting – Zynga will be making it much easier to strengthen your Mafia Wars mafia. This feature will most likely migrate into other games which bear the Zynga brand as well.

Translations – Mafia Wars will become available to many more players throughout the world by offering it in many more languages. Once again I foresee this opening up other games as well.

Robbing – Zynga has heard the voice of its players and will be reintroducing robbing in 2010 with and new format.

Developers Days – This is in my opinion one of the best ways to improve any game. Zynga plans to hold meetings between the development team and player base in order to come up with new ideas.

Beta Testing – It seems that Zynga has decided that do more in the way of beta testing. You can never test enough when putting out a quality product. Everyone needs to keep in mind that even though a product goes through an extensive beta process there will always be the inevitable problems once the product goes live.

Free Stuff – It looks like we will be getting more free stuff in the way of weekly giveaways, rewards, contests, and more. Hey, free stuff is always good.

With 2009 coming to an end very soon I took some time to reflect back upon the year and realized that in the Mafia Wars world 2009 was a good year. We saw many new features and even though some were very good and others not so good, all in all we had fun and it was great. 2010 is almost upon us and I think that it is going to be another great year.

Each time you do a job, you get a little bit of job mastery. I am assuming there will be a nice item available once you reach 100% mastery.

After you do a job one time, you will be locked out either 5 minutes, 4 hours, or 8 hours, depending on which job you picked. After that time has passed, you can collect your reward and choose a different job.

Steal a Bottle of Champagne: Cost: 30 energy. Reward 45 + 15 experience points (2 xp: energy ratio) and 10% chance of getting 2 Champagne Bottles (+25 attack).

Crash the Mayor’s NYE Part: Cost: 60 energy. Reward: 120 + 30 experience points (2.5 xp:energy ratio) and 50% chance of getting a “special item”.

Steal the NYE Manhattan Ball: Cost: 100 energy. Reward: 300 + 50 experience points (3.5 xp:energy ratio) and a 100% chance of getting a rare item.

Strategy

With all those options on the table, doing the “Steal a Bottle of Champagne” job is the fastest way to complete the 100% mastery. If you did that job every 5 minutes as it was available, you would make it to 100% mastery in just over 8 hours. The downside is that the XP:energy for the “Steal a Bottle of Champagne” is the lowest and an attack boost just isn’t something that impresses me too much.

As far as the rewards for the other jobs, I am assuming a “special item” is some of those new items we’ve seen floating around recently. I don’t think these will be repeats but rather new items specifically for this event.

For the stealing the NYE ball, the reward I believe will be the NYE ball. The graphic has been floating out there on the internet for quite some time.

Out of all of these I think that the Food Coma is hilarious. How many times have you eaten Thanksgiving dinner and everyone rushes to the living room to watch football and are sound asleep before the first quarter is over? It was always that way as I grew up and the tradition of “Food Coma” is alive and well still in my family. Oh well I guess that the condition saves us from the boring games that are the usual fare of the Thanksgiving celebration.
